Our property comprises 224 hectares, of mostly granite soil. Sandy Creek runs through the property giving us permanent water. We have rocky hills and fertile flats for our stock to graze on.
Guyra has an elevation of 1275m and an average annual rainfall of about 850mm. We have frosts from April to October. The locals say when you live in Guyra you light your fires on Anzac Day. Our winter temperatures average about 11 degrees and our overnight temperatures can get down to -9 degrees. It is not uncommon to have a late drop of snow in October and November.
It is good however to have four seasons and we always look forward to spring when our new lambs are on the ground.
Hillsborough was settled in 1878 and the first cottage on the property now forms part of the old shearing shed. The Homestead dates back to 1880.
When we purchased Hillsborough in 2007 it had been a fine wool property. Due to the poor condition of the shearing shed we decided our enterprise would be based on shedding sheep and cattle.
We are striving to improve the land and have implemented regenerative agriculture practices.
